Abstract

1,272,877. Polymer composition. MONTECATINI EDISON S.p.A. 6 Nov., 1970 [7 Nov., 1969], No. 52949/70 Heading C3P. Polymer compositions comprise (a) a highly crystalline vinyl chloride polymer, (b) a coexsiccate of a latex of a nitrile rubber and of a latexof a copolymer of an alpha-methylstyrene and an acrylonitrile, and (c) a mineral filler. Component (a) is preferably a P.V.C. having a syndiotaxia index of 1À8-2À4, an intrinsic viscosity of 0À5-2 dl./g., a glass transition temperature above 80‹ C. and a Vicat penetration temperature of more than 85‹ C. Component (b) in amounts of 5-50 parts per hundred of P.V.C. comprises, in the example, 20% of nitrile rubber (20% acrylonitrile) and 80% of alpha - methylstyrene (72À5%) - acrylonitrile (27À5%). Mineral filler is used in amounts of 10-50 parts per hundred of P.V.C., and may be calcium carbonate, quartz, silica or alumina. Also present are stabilizers (Ba, Cd, Pb and epoxy compounds) lubricant (calcium stearate and petrolatum) and pigment.
