Abstract

1,272,626. Control of D.C. motors. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. 25 April, 1969 [27 April, 1968], No. 21139/69. Heading H2J. [Also in Division G3] An electric tool is powered by a motor 18 energized from an A.C. supply via a rectifier connectable directly to the supply and contained within the tool casing, and its speed is kept substantially constant by a regulating arrangement on the D.C. supplied to the motor. As shown, the regulating arrangement comprises a voltage dependent resistor 17 in series with the motor, but it may alternatively be in series with the motor field only (Fig. 4, not shown). In Fig. 1 (not shown), the regulator is a centrifugal governor with contacts either in the motor circuit or controlling a thyristor which is in the motor circuit, with a capacitor and voltage dependent resistor to suppress sparking, and in Fig. 2 (not shown) a tachogenerator controls the speed via an unspecified "electronic device." The motor may be disconnected in the event of overspeed by a centrifugal switch or by additional contacts on the speed regulating centrifugal governor, by a device sensitive to the cooling air flow, or by a relay sensitive to the voltage distribution between the field and armature windings. Alternatively, a vane-type governor, which may be the cooling fan, is arranged so that its surface area increases at a predetermined speed and the resulting braking warns the operator to switch off.
