Abstract
1,272,599. Etching. PRINTING TECHNIQUES LTD. 16 May, 1969 [20 May, 1968], No. 24992/69. Heading B6J. A cylindrical or other article 24, Fig. 1, e.g. of copper, zinc or magnesium, e.g. to be formed into a printing plate, is etched, e.g. with ferric chloride, in a machine comprising a tank 10 containing the etchant, which is splashed against the article by rotatable paddles 26, Figs. 1 and 3, including V-shaped blades 30 separated by partitions 32, the paddles closely fitting in troughs 40 mounted in the tank so as to project above the surface of the etchant, which passes into the troughs through holes 44 so as to maintain a predetermined amount of etchant in the troughs. Alternatively the troughs may each have a manifold below them supplied with etchant from the tank or from another source.
