Abstract

1,271,931. Hide-treating drums. CYRIL NORRIS & SON Ltd. July 3, 1969 [April 3, 1968], No. 16008/68. Heading C6C. A rotary drum 1 for the treatment of hides or other articles, e.g. for the tanning of hides, has its internal circumferential surface formed with a helical flight 2 for propelling the hides &c. from one end 3 of the drum, which has an inlet 5 to the other end 4, which has an outlet 6 in which a discharge shoot 7 is mounted, during treatment of the hides &c. in a liquid, e.g. a tanning solution, which is contained in the drum at a level just below the inlet and outlet apertures. Paddles 8 extend between the ends 3, 4 and pass through the convolutions of the flight 2 adjacent its inner periphery, whereby they just dip in the liquid to cause agitatation thereof. Ribs 9 are secured to the drum circumference between the flight convolutions for tumbling the hides &c. In operation, the drum is oscillated rotatably about its axis such that the rotation in one direction is of greater extent than that in the opposite direction, so that the hides &c. are progressed slowly from the inlet end to the outlet end of the drum.
