A fog producing device consists of a chamber .10 in which there is a motor-driven fan or blower effective to draw in air from the left side of the housing 12 and discharge it through a nozzle 74 connected to the opposite end of the chamber, this chamber being connected by a pipe 16 to a liquid container 28, the pipe passing through an apertured tube 52 sealed to both chamber housing 12 and the container with a part-cylindrical sleeve 62 around it which can open or close a bleed valve 58, the pipe 16 extending into chamber 10 and through conduit 70 to have its outlet adjacent the nozzle. The tube 52 is sealed to the container 28 via a seal 22 which is releasable so that the container and chamber can be separated. In operation, with the bleed valve 58 fully open, only atmospheric pressure acts on the liquid in the container 28, the flow of air through chamber 10 to the nozzle 74 past the outlet of tube 16 aspirates liquid into the air stream and a fine fog or mist is discharged through the nozzle, the character or quantity of which being optionally controlled by a valve 78 at the nozzle, which valve controls air flow from apertures surrounding the nozzle. The nozzle 74 contains a venturi passage the recovery angle of which determining the conical shape of the discharge. To produce a less fine fog or mist containing larger particles the sleeve valve is closed, this increasing the pressure on the liquid in the container 28, producing a combined aspirating action and pressure feed of liquid through pipe 16, this increasing the rate of liquid entrainment in the air stream. Intermediate positions of the sleeve valve 62 can produce intermediate liquid particle sizes. The apparatus may be used for spraying insecticides, pesticides, deodorants and scenting materials.
