Abstract

1,270,961. Vehicle routing system. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 14 July, 1969 [16 July, 1968], No. 35336/69. Heading B7N. [Also in Division G4] In an arrangement for routing a vehicle along an aisle to a particular storage location, each vehicle is provided with photo-electric reading apparatus and each location with an address defining member 51 including a series of binary coded bendable tabs 64-72 which co-operate with light source-photo-cell combinations 11, 13 and 31, 33 and a series of clock pulse generating tabs 85 which co-operate with light sourcephoto-cell combinations 11, 15 and 31, 35. The combination units are spaced apart on the vehicles a distance equal to that between vehicle centring tabs 63, 73 on the member 51. The direction of read-in of the address to shift register 113 is determined by direction switch 111 in response to which code reading cell 13, 33 is first obscured. When both cells 13, 33 are obscured by the centring tabs 63, 73 providing a "zero" output from OR gate 123 and a "one" to AND gate 127 from centring control 125, and when the address read into register 113 corresponds to the address to which the vehicle is routed stored in register 131 so that comparator 133 provides a second input to AND gate 127, the motor control 135 is triggered to stop the vehicle.
