Abstract

127,087. Day, W. H. May 17, 1918. Stationary-mould machines. - A machine for moulding tablets of compressed food &c. comprises a mould chamber 1 furnished with moulds 21, a piston head 5 carrying a series of pistons 22 registering with the moulds, a receiving-trough 8 for the material, the bottom of which is consti-. tuted by the top plate 3 of the mould chamber 1, and a compression plate 7 adapted to enter the trough to close the moulds during compression, which is effected either by moving the head 5 upwardly or the chamber 1 downwardly. The drawings show a duplex machine in which the head 5 is movable, being operated by a handlever 6 through suitable gearing, e.g. through rack-and-pinion gearing 14, 15, 16, Fig. 5. A pair of hinged compression plates 7 are employed, the outer sides 9 of the troughs 8 being removable to allow the plates 7 to be turned over on to the plate 3. The plates are secured during the pressing operation by resistance bars 10 adapted to be swung over the plates and to be secured by nuts 11. In operation, a quantity of material sufficient to fill the moulds is poured into the trough and passed to the moulds. The plates 7 are then turned down over the moulds and locked in position, after which the piston head 5 is raised by operating the lever 6. After compression, the plates 7 are raised and the head 5 further raised to eject the moulded articles.
