Abstract

1,270,750. Making drive links. SINGER CO. 17 Sept., 1970 [23 Sept., 1969], No. 44350/70. Heading B3A. [Also in Division F2] A sewing machine drive link comprises bearing portions at each end joined by a web portion and is formed of one integral metallic piece wherein the density of the web part is greater than that of the bearing portions. A link consisting of an alloy of 95À4% aluminum powder, 3% copper, 1% silicon and 0À6% mag. nesium to which 1À5% lubricant by weight is added is formed first into a compact using die pressures of 5 tons per square inch at the bearing portions and 15 tons per square inch at the web portion and then sintered. After sintering the parts are sized and coined pressures of 15 to 20 tons for the bearing portions and 50 tons for the web being used. After cleaning the parts are preferably impregnated with lubricating oil by soaking or vacuum and pressure treatments.
