A device for recording the occurrence of signals on a number of outputs comprises means for scanning the outputs, a digital timing device 4 and a printer 5, 6 which when operated records the reading of the counter and the timing device, the printer being actuated when the scanner scans an output at which a signal is present, the printer thereby recording the identity of the output and the time at which the signal appeared. In the form of Fig. 1 a clock pulse generator 9 energises a coil 1a to step round a selector switch 1 scanning terminals 2. Switches 1, 2, 3 etc. close if some undesirable condition arises (e.g. in a process plant or machine) applying a signal to the corresponding terminal 2. As the wiper 1 revolves a print wheel rotates with it being numbered corresponding to the switches. The timing device 4 presents a digital representation of the time and/or date. When wiper 1 reaches a marked terminal 2 a signal passes to unit 8 to energise printing coil 7 and operate print hammer so that the number and time are recorded on a chart 6. In another form the alarm switches are scanned at high speed by a counter advanced by a high speed clock when a closed switch is scanned a corresponding memory is set, and a signal passes to stop the high speed clock and hold the counter in this position, which the corresponding output marked. The counter outputs are connected to the terminals 2 of the selector switch 1 which is set in motion at the same time as the high speed clock is stopped. The identity of the marked input and the time of occurrence of the signal are then printed as before.
