Abstract

1,269,202. Foundry moulding processes and apparatus. FORDATH Ltd. 8 May, 1969 [14 Feb., 1968; 29 Aug., 1968; 4 March, 1969] Nos. 7211/68, 41255/68 and 11404/69. Heading B3F. [Also in Division C3] A method for the production of foundry mouldings comprises introducing a mixture comprising an aggregate, a curable binder (dissolved in cyclohexane) and a polyisocyanate into a moulding box to form a " green " moulding and passing a tertiary amine into the box to effect curing. The amine is preferably triethylamine which is passed into the box as a vapour entrained in a gas stream. An apparatus for effecting curing of the moulding comprises an air line 10 containing a pressure regulator 14 connected to a vessel 17 which contains the amine, from which issues an outlet line 18 for the passage of a gas stream carrying the entrained amine vapour via a distributer arrangement 20 to the box 23. The distributer 20 includes four air-operated stop valves 26-29 which are arranged to be operated in pairs such that when two of these 26, 29 are open the stream of gas carrying the entrained amine vapour is passed through the box 23 in one direction and when the other two 27, 28 are open the stream is caused to pass through in the opposite direction. A by-pass line 31 extends between the pressure regulator 14 and distributer 20 to ensure that a minimum of free amine vapour is left within the box 23 after curing. The flow control valves of the apparatus are timer controlled.
