Abstract

1,269,136. Cross-linked chlorinated polyethylene foams. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 25 July, 1969 [27 July, 1968], No. 37415/69. Headings C3C and C3P. A cross-linked chlorinated polyethylene foam is made by heating a mixture of a chlorinated polyethylene of 12-30% by wt. chlorine content, an expanding agent which evolves gas at elevated temperature and 0À05-2À5% by wt. of a cross-linking agent, the mixture being formed at a temperature at which the polyethylene is not cross-linked, and the heating is carried out to a temperature above the softening point (as defined) of the polymer and from 5- 150‹ C. above the decomposition temperatures of the cross-linking and expanding agents. In the examples the chlorinated polyethylene was mixed and heated with dicumyl peroxide or 1,3 - bis - (tert.butyl peroxyisopropylbenzene), azodicarbonamide, or N,N<SP>1</SP> - dinitrosopentamethylenetetramine, and stearic acid, zinc oxide and/or antimony trioxide.
