A stuffer crimper includes a crimping chamber 10, a pair of feed rolls 11, 12, shafts 51, 56 carrying the respective feed rolls, bearing elements in which the shafts are journalled, a bracket carrying the bearing elements of one of the shafts and mounted for swinging movement in a direction to vary the spacing between the feed rolls, .the bracket including a pair of pivoted arms 61, 62 disposed at opposite ends of the associated. feed roll 12 for supporting the shaft 56 thereof, and a clamping member 66 for clamping said arms together for movement in unison, the clamping member 66 engaging a slot 68 in each of the arms for permitting adjustment of the position of one arm with respect to the other arm in order to establish a parallel relationship between the feed rolls 11, 12. The bracket is pivoted about the rod 63 journalled in the arms 61, 62 and resiliently mounted by spring 57f such that the ends of the rolls 11, 12 may be adjusted for coplanar alignment. The rolls 11, 12 are preferably mounted eccentrically in the respective bearing housings 52, 53 and 57, 58 rotatably carried by the crimping frame. The position of the feed rolls 11, 12 relative to the saddle 19 of the crimping chamber 10 being adjustable by rotation of the cylindrical bearing housings. A driven gear 56a is mounted on the swinging shaft 56 and a driving gear 70 mounted on a driven shaft 71 rotatable about a fixed axis, the driving and driven gears meshing and being disposed' to produce a moment about the pivot mounting of the swinging shaft to urge the swinging shaft towards the shaft of the other feed roll 11.
