Abstract

1,268,208. Stabilization of halogen containing polymers. M. & T. INTERNATIONAL N.V. 8 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 17839/69. Heading C3P. Halogen containing polymers are stabilized against heat by incorporation of (a) a compound of the formula (RSnX 1.5 ) n wherein X is sulphur or a mixture of 1-10 parts of oxygen and 10-1 parts of sulphur and n is an integer 2-1000, and (b) a compound of the formula wherein R and R<SP>1</SP> are independently C 1-20 alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, alkaryl or cycloalkyl; Y is OOCR<SP>1</SP>COOR or OOCR<SP>11</SP>COO or and g = 4, a = 1-3, b # 1 and m = 2 or 3 except when Y is OOCR<SP>11</SP>COO when g = 3 and a = 2, and R<SP>11</SP> = alkenylene, arylene, alkarylene, arylalkenylene or cycloalkenylene. Examples describe the treatment of vinyl chloride homopolymer with (a) butylthiostannoic acid and (b) dibutyltin maleate, bis-(tributyltin)- maleate, dibutyltin bis-(iso octyl maleate), din-octyltin maleate, dibutyltin bis-(isopropylmaleate), bis-(dibutyltin laurate) maleate, dibutyltin bis-(benzyl maleate) or dibutyltin bis- (cyclohexyl maleate); and the treatment of vinylchloride-vinyl acetate copolymer with (a) butylthiostannoic acid and (b) dibutyltin bis- (isooctylmaleate), di-n-octyltin maleate, dibutyltin bis.(isopropylmaleate), bis-(dibutyltin laurate)-maleate, dibutyltin bis-(benzyl maleate) or dibutyltin bis-(cyolohexyl maleate). Other specified stabilizer systems are (1) butyl thiostannoic acid and dibutyltin bis-(isooctyl maleate), (2) butyl thiostannoic acid and di-noctyltin bis-(isooctyl maleate), (3) butyl thiostannoic acid and dimethyl tin bis-(isooctyl maleate), (4) butyl thiostannoic acid and di-noctyltin bis-(isooctyl maleate), (5) octylthiostannoic acid di-n-octyltin bis-(isooctyl maleate) and (6) cyclohexyl thiostannoic acid and di-n - octyltin bis-(iso-octyl maleate):
