Abstract
1,267,903. Laminating process and apparatus. SIEMPELKAMP G.m.b.H. 3 April, 1970 No. 15866/70. Heading B5N. A process for the production of faced boards comprises forming mats from a starting material including wood chips or wood fibres and a binding medium for the chips or fibres, pre-pressing the mats without heat, locating a facing sheet on at least one side of each mat in a pressurized chamber and transforming the mats on to faced boards by a single hot-pressing operation. In a preferred embodiment, each mat consists of a relatively coarse central layer and a fine covering layer. With reference to Fig. 1, a continuous mat formed from the starting material at web-forming station 1, is cut by saw 2 into individual mats 7 which are individually loaded into the preliminary press 5 to be pressed without heat, a pre-pressed mat then being loaded on to the loading plate 13 and conveyed by conveyer belt 15 into the pressurized chamber 12 and on to press loading plate 18 carried on conveyer belt 14, the press-loading plate 18 optionally carrying a facing sheet 6, a facing sheet 6 being applied to the mat by suction lifting device 8, the loaded press loading plates being moved in the direction of arrow 20 into loading rack 16 from which, when fully loaded, the assemblies are transferred to the multi-stage 4 and heated under pressure. The platens of the press may have holes therein in superposed planes for a heatexchange medium and are cooled prior to loading.
