Abstract
1,267,443. Reducing iron ore. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. Feb.24, 1969 [April 24, 1968], No.9734/69. Heading C7D. Ore is fed continuously to a series of fluidized beds where it is pregressively reduced; the beds include ferric and ferrous reduction zones and are operated in the temperature range 1000‹ to 1800‹F. There is added directly to the reduction zone a substance which will provide at least 0À05% by weight of the bed of particulate material less than 10 microns in diameter and stable at the operating conditions, the substance being an element of Groups IIA, IIIA, IVA, IVB, VIB, VIIB or VIII of the Periodic Table, a compound of that element or a precursor of that compound. Particular substances referred to are ferro-alloys, titanium dioxide, alumina or graphite. The addition may be made to the non-fluidized standpipe by which the partially reduced ore reaches the ferrous reduction zone from the preceding zone, or through which is returned ore which has been entrained in the reducing gases and subsequently separated. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,111, 969.
