Abstract

1,267,432. Adjustable folding box. ROSE FORGROVE Ltd. 17 July, 1970 [18 July, 1969], No. 36295/69. Heading B8C. An adjustable folding box for use in a wrapping machine wherein articles such as bakery products are fed successively into a web which is continuously formed into a tube by the box comprises upwardly sloping front portions 6 attached to base strips 60, side portions 17 provided with inturned converging parts 7 and upstanding fins 8 having upwardly sloping front edges and outwardly flanged portions. A first mechanism is provided for effecting simultaneous and equal lateral movements of the portions 6, 17 with accompanying greater longitudinal movement of the fins 8. A second mechanism is provided for effecting simultaneous longitudinal and heightwise movement of the portions 17 and the fins 8 to vary the box height, the portions 6 remaining stationary. The first mechanism comprises a pair of threaded shafts 11, 13 which are mounted, respectively, on a pair of brackets 20, 21 and which support a fin carrying bridge 14 moved longitudinally by rotation of a knob 10 on the shaft 11. The knob 10 also rotates through bevel gears 15, a shaft 16 mounted on the brackets 20, 21 to produce a lateral movement of the portions 17 connected to nuts 119 engaging oppositely handed screw-threads of shaft 16. The shaft 16 also via chains 22, 23 rotates a shaft 24 which via a chain 25 rotates a shaft 26 so that the portions 6 which are mounted on the shafts 24, 26 via the strips 60 and nuts 127-130 engaging appropriately threaded portions of shafts 24, 26, are moved laterally. The second mechanism comprises a shaft 40 having a threaded portion engaging a lug 140 so that upon rotation of a knob 39, a pair of brackets 43, 44 interconnected by sprockets 46, 47 and a chain 41 are moved horizontally thereby moving the fins 8 and the portions 17 which are mounted on the brackets 43, 44 via four upstanding screws 49 engaging the brackets 20, 21. Rotation of the shaft 40 also drives, via bevel gears 45, 50 and a chain 51, the screws 49 so that the portions 17 and the fins 8 are also moved vertically. A central strip 9 is provided for supporting soft products. The chains 22, 23 may be replaced by a flexible drive. The adjustments may be electrically performed by a motor mounted on each of the brackets 20, 43. The box may be turned upside-down.
