1,267,397. Drying; heat treatment apparatus; fluidized bed reactors. CHEMOPROJEKT PROJEKTOVA INZENYRSKA A. KONZULTACNI ORGANISACE. 12 April, 1969, No. 18864/69. Headings F4B, F4G and F4U Fluidized bed apparatus comprises a cylindrical housing having means for admitting and exhausting a fluidizing medium and a movable shaft within and coaxial with the housing, the shaft carrying at least one partition surface extending to the wall of the casing. In the dryer of Fig. 3 the shaft carries semicircular partition surfaces b, d, f and g and co-operating semicircular surfaces a, c and e are fixed to the housing. Fluidizing medium at different temperature is applied to each of the inlets 5 and exhausted from the corresponding outlets 8. The material being dried is moved from one stage of the drying process to the next by rotating the shaft through 180 degrees, shifting it to the left so that partition d meets partition a &c., rotating it through another 180 degrees and moving it back to its original position. In the dryer of Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown), the fixed partitions are at the bottom of the casing and the material is pushed over then by the moving partitions. In a modification, Figs. 9-12 (not shown), both sets of semicircular partitions are mounted on the shaft, but only one rotates therewith. In other modifications, Figs. 1, 13 and 14 (not shown), the partitions are circular with slots cut in them and are bent to act like small sections of helical conveyers. Two chambers may be operated in series, the fluidizing medium from the outlets of one chamber being connected to the inlets of the other, Figs. 15 and 16 (not shown).
