Abstract

1,266,781. Zeolitic hydrocarbon conversion catalysts. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 20 Feb., 1969, No. 9248/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Divisions C1 and C5] Crystalline zeolitic molecular sieve is contacted with ammonia, an alkylamine or carbon disulphide at a temperature of from 400 to 1000‹F in order to provide catalyst having decreased external surface catalytic activity when used for example in a hydrocarbon conversion process. The molecular sieve may have pore openings of from 3 to 15 Angstroms diameter and may have been base exchanged or otherwise composited with cations having catalytic activity, for example magnesium, calcium, chromium, iron, cobalt, nickel, palladium or platinum ions. As exemplified, calcium exchanged zeolite A having a pore diameter of 5 Angstroms is contacted with ammonia at a temperature of 1000‹F for one hour and thereafter is purged with hydrogen for thirty minutes; contact with ammonia may take place in the presence of inert diluent.
