A safety device for a motor vehicle comprises an electromagnet mounted on the front bumper, an automatic electromagnetic switch, and two warning signals, one visual and one acoustic, on the vehicle dashboard, the parts being connected together so that the presence of another vehicle close to the front bumper causes operation of the warning signals.
