A seam 3 joining the ends 5, 7 of a woven fabric 9, e.g. to form a Fourdrinier wire cloth consisting of spaced apart warps 11a, 11b, 11c, ... interwoven in a selected pattern with spaced apart wefts 13a, 13b, 13c, ..., comprises warp end portions 15a, 15b, 15c, ..., 17a, 17b, 17c, ... projecting from the ends 5, 7 and terminating in free ends and a plurality of added weft portions 19a, 19b, 19c, ... interwoven with the portions 15a, 15b, ..., 17a, 17b, ... in the same selected pattern as that of the fabric, each portion 15a, 15b, ..., 17a, 17b, ... terminating at a point 21a, 21b, ... adjacent the free end of a warp end portion projecting from the other end of the fabric, the termination points 21a, 21b, ... being arranged in a substantially uniform pattern over the whole area of the seam, and each of the termination points being spaced from the termination point of the or each laterally adjacent warp strand by at least a total count of ten weft strands or ten warp and weft strands. The woven fabric may be formed of plastics material, metal or a combination of both. Between 90 and 120 added weft threads, e.g. 107 or 109 threads, are used to form the seam. The fabric may be woven in a plain weave, Fig. 1, or a semi-twill weave, Fig. 3. The unused parts of the warp end portions 15, 17 are cut off to form hook portions 23, 25 which are due to the crimp in the warps during weaving. Each cut end 27, 29 of the portions 23, 25 lies flush with the bottom surface of the fabric in the finished seam. Examples stating the number of added wefts and the pattern of the termination points are described, Figs. 4 and 5 (both not shown).
