Abstract

1,264,534. Bolted joints. FINMARK Ltd. 3 March, 1969, No. 11093/69. Addition to 1,186,503. Heading F2H. [Also in Division A4] In a joint member comprising two half blocks, each having half a hollow open cubic block 5 and an integral half spigot 13A, Fig. 1, at least one half block has two half spigot arms 15, 16 of L-shaped cross-section integral with one side thereof, the inner surfaces only of these spigot arms 15, 16 being inclined so that they taper towards their free ends. Two separate section tubes 22, 23, Fig. 2, are connected by a joint comprising two such half blocks. The half spigots 13A, 13B of the two half blocks are forced into engagement with the two sides of the tube 23 by a wedge block 25 and a screw (26, Fig. 3, not shown). The limbs 15B, 16B of the half spigot arms 15, 16 are forced into engagement with two sides of the tube 22 by a wedge block 30 and a screw 31, wedge block 30 having a cross-section of two different size overlapping squares. The smaller square has surfaces 32, 33 engaging one corner of the tube, while the large square has surfaces 36, 35 engaging the limbs 15B, 16B. The other limbs 15A, 16A are spaced from the adjacent sides of the tube 22, and the axial edge 40 of limb 15A is spaced from the adjacent axial edge 41 of limb 16A an external distance in a direction parallel to the inner surface of tube 22 at least one-eighth of the circumference of the inner surface of tube 22. The limbs 15B, 16B may be extended to the adjacent comer of the tube. The invention may be applied to a rectangular section tube in place of tube 22. The completed block is closed by a cap (29) shown in Fig. 4 of the parent Specification, and the half blocks are held together by a block (53) shown in Fig. 14 of the parent. Each half block 5 may carry additional pairs of half spigot arms 15, 16 as shown at 42 (43).
