Abstract

1,264,437. Caps. WHITE CASTLE SYSTEM Inc. 7 Nov., 1970, No. 53068/70. Heading A3V. A cap construction comprises a crown 14, a headband 12 attached to said crown and formed from a foldable material having front 15 and rear 13 parts joined at their outermost ends and spaced apart intermediate the ends thereby providing an opening therebetween for recovering head of the wearer. One of said parts 15 includes size adjustment means comprising a pair of slidable flaps 60, 62, one of said flaps 62 being adapted to telescopically receive the other flap for adjustment of the size of the headband. Size locking means are disposed near the front end of one of said flaps 60 and consist of an apron window 34 and a pressure sensitive adhesive 42 mounted behind said window permitting non-impeded slidable adjustment of said flaps. Said locking means is attracted by finger pressure exerted on a portion of the headband to bring said adhesive into contact with the opposite flap through said window. The crown 14 is formed from a blank 52 of tissue-like material and is secured to the headband by a line of glue (54, Fig. 3, not shown) applied to said headband. Slot adjustment may be carried out with the cap assembled by allowing part of the overlapping portion of said blank of tissue-like material to slide through the slot (49, Fig. 3, not shown) in the side of the headband which has a C- shaped cross-section. The blank of tissue-like material is provided with a line of glue (56, Fig. 3, not shown) along its upper edge for seating the crown after final assembly of the cap. In a further embodiment a second pressure-sensitive adhesive 40 is disposed in substantially horizontal alignment with the window on the opposing flap having its tacky side in a position to contact the first adesive. The pressure-sensitive adhesive may consist of adhesive tape having tacky surfaces on both sides. The cap is disposable and made from paper, or paper-like materials.
