Abstract

1,264,035. N-vinylindole copolymers. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP. 8 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968], No. 17993/69. Heading C3P. [Also in Division H1] New photoconductive copolymers of N-vinylindole have the formula wherein X is a vinyl residue which includes an aryl or heterocyclic ring (where vinyl residue is defined as a divalent monomer residue providing two saturated carbon atoms to the basic carbon chain of the polymer), m and n are each at least one and m+n is greater than 10. Examples describe the copolymerization of N-vinylindole with N-vinylcarbazole, styrene, N - vinyl - 2 - methylindole, 9 - vinylanthracene, 4- vinyl - dibenzofuran, 4 - vinyldibenzothiophene, indole, N-methylindole, indene, coumarin and maleic anhydride with catalysts such as benzoyl peroxide and azobisisobutyronitrile or by mixing the monomers under vacuum and heating.
