Abstract

1,264,003. Sterilizing process and apparatus. WILMOT CASTLE CO. 6 May, 1969 [6 May, 1968], No. 23076/69. Heading A5G. Articles are sterilized by exposing them to a gaseous alkylene oxide, optionally admixed with an inert gas, recovering the alkylene oxide for re-use and condensing it to a liquid state. The invention also comprises apparatus for performing the process comprising a sterilizing chamber, a reservoir for liquid alkylene oxide, means for vapourizing the liquid and feeding the vapour to the chamber, means for removing the vapourous sterilizing agent from the chamber and for condensing it to a liquid in a reservoir and means for maintaining the mixture of sterilizing agent and inert gas in the reservoir at a predetermined proportion range if the latter is present. It is shown schematically in the Figure.
