[Also in Divisions Cl and Fl] In a pressurised dispenser such as for use in periodontal therapy the liquified propellant has a higher density than the liquid to be dispensed and a dip tube has an intake above the liquid/liquid interface, the rate of discharge and the dip tube cross section being chosen so that the dispensed liquid is free from propellant. The liquid phase is predominantly water, ethanol, or another medium in which the liquefied propellant is insoluble. It may contain a nonionic surfactant and various additives including colouring or whitening agents, flavours, perfumes, preservatives, antimicrobial and antibacterial agents, silicones and chlorophyll compounds, many being specified. Propellants which are non-toxic, non-flammable, inert to water and non-corrosive to metals are preferred, particularly perfluorocyclobutane. Difluoroethane and chlorofluoromethanes and ethanes are also suitable. The dispenser is particularly suitable for dispensing pharmaceutical preparations free from contaminants, including propellant, Examples 2-6 disclosing mouthwashes, Ex. 7 a nasal relief spray and Ex. 8 a poison ivy relief spray.
