Abstract

1,263,250. Spray drying. FISONS Ltd. 20 Oct., 1969 [29 Oct., 1968], No. 51250/68. Heading BIB. Particulate material is obtained from a solution, e.g. a solution containing monoammonium phosphate, by spraying it down a tower in which a current of air is flowing, the internal walls of the tower being, at least partly, covered by an impervious flexible lining, e.g. made of plastics material, such as P.V.C. or polyethylene, or preferably of canvas or nylon mesh coated with P.V.C. Such a lining may be obtained by attaching sheets of the flexible material at a number of points on the inside surface of the tower. The flexible sheets move or pulsate due to transient movements of air in the tower, and troublesome build up of solidified material on the walls of the tower is prevented. The apparatus can also be used for prilling.
