1,263,084. Block copolymer compositions. BRITISH PETROLEUM CO. Ltd. 17 July, 1969 [19 Aug., 1968 (2)], Nos. 39467/68 and 39468/68. Heading C3P. Block copolymers in which a conjugated diene polymer block is terminated by unequal length blocks of vinyl aromatic compound polymers (5000 to 20,000 and 30,000 to 100,000 molecular weight respectively) are blended with vinylaromatic compound polymers, optionally in the presence of an antioxidant and peroxidic initiator. The preparation of the asymmetric block copolymers by sequential polymerization using sec-butyl lithium is described and exemplified. In examples styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene block copolymers are blended with polystyrene, in some instances with dicumyl peroxide and 2,21 - methylene - bis(4 - methyl - 6 - t - butylphenol) also.
