A tube or drum mill comprises an outer shell 1 and an inner steel plate lining 2 whose interior cross-section is polygonal. As shown, it is rectangular with rounded corners. The lining plates 4 forming the comers bear directly against the inner wall of the shell and the remainder of the plates 5 are spaced from the shell and supported by members 6 of a material whose density is lower than that of the shell or lining. As described, the members are formed of plastics wood, or a wood-like material produced by pressing glueing or casting.
