Abstract

1,262,963. Automatic circuit-breakers; partly electromagnetic switches. HUNDT & WEBER G.m.b.H. 10 March, 1969 [8 March, 1968], No. 12506/69. Heading H1N. A contact piece 6 of the stationary contact 5 of an automatic circuit-breaker is arranged on a plate 7 extending in the direction of current flow along the movable contact member 3 so that, upon short circuit, electrodynamic repulsion between the plate 7 and the movable contact member 3 separates the contacts against the biasing force of the main latching mechanism (not shown). An auxiliary latch lever 18 holds the contacts apart in the intermediate position shown, and is releasable electromagnetically or manually to allow closing or reclosing. A rectilinearly moving armature 22 of an electromagnet 21 engages the latch lever 18 to release this auxiliary latch. The main closing action of the breaker, from fully-open position to the intermediate position, is done manually, or by pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical devices, or by a small high speed motor, or the auxiliary latch may be rendered inoperative and the main mechanism used to actually close the contacts. Normal electromagnetic release fully opens the contacts. Plate 7 terminates in a cross-piece 8 from which extend parallel conductor bars 9 leading to a connector piece 10 connected to the terminal 11, and the plate 7 rests on a leaf spring 12 which effects damping by friction. Contact 3 is resiliently mounted on its arm 2 by a compression spring 14, and arm 2 extends through a slot 13 of a carrier to which contact 3 is connected, to allow vertical play for the contact 3. A damping device 15 controls vibration. Mica sheets 16 insulate plate 7 and conductor bars 9 and protect against creepage. An arc chamber (not shown) is provided to de-ionize the arc blown into the chamber by the contact arrangement. In a multi-pole breaker with a common operating mechanism, the auxiliary latch lever 18 is provided for the central movable contact member only. Lever 18 is replaceable by two levers on either side of arm 2 operated by a single electromagnet 21. Lever 18 engages a transverse bar 26 on arm 2, and this bar may connect together all three arms 2.
