Abstract

A room or other accommodation space 1 includes two electrodes connectable respectively to the opposite poles of a D.C. voltage source 13 for producing an electric field within the space, at least one of the electrodes comprising a translucent insulating layer 8 and a translucent conductive layer 11. The insulating layer may be of polymethacrylate, and the conductive layer may form a film of gold or silver on the layer, or alternatively form a grid of iron or copper wires on, or embedded in, the insulating layer. The translucent electrode may be part of the ceiling, 11, 8 or from a window 12, 10, and the counter electrodes may be the remaining boundary surfaces 2 of the room. The conductive layer may have filtering properties on the incident radiation.
