Abstract

1,262,840. Tobacco-smoke filters. E. J. CALHOUN and K. G. PINTER. 4 Dec., 1968, No. 15014/71. Divided out of 1,251,034. Heading A2C. A filter element for use in a tobacco smoking article comprises one or more discs of glass fibre material. Where several discs are used they are placed in face to face relationship. The individual fibres may have diameters of from 0.005 to 0.5 mm, and may be rolled, woven, laminated or compressed into sheets. The glass fibres may be coated with agents such as polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate or monolaurate, vegetable oils, or solutions of salicyclic acid or potassium silicate. Flavourings such as peppermint, liquorice or anise, or deodorizing agents such as phenol salicylate or p-acetylaminophenol and their esters, may be included. The glass fibre filter material may be interposed between conventional filter elements.
