Abstract

1,262,529. Gas chromatography system. SPETSIALNOE KONSTRUKTORSKOE BJURO AN ESTONSKOI SSR. 10 April, 1969, No. 18356/69. Heading B1X. A gas chromatography system comprises a carrier gas distribution unit 1 which passes carrier gas, via reference cell 9 and sample introduction units 5, 6, to analytical column 8 and separation column 7. Downstream of the columns are located a coupling device 16, connected as shown to measuring cells 12, 19, flame ionization detector 14 and sample fraction collector 13. Reference cell 9 and one or other of measuring cells 12, 19 together from a thermal conductivity detector and are connected electrically in a bridge network (see Fig. 3, not shown). Coupler 16 may be connected into the system in any of four modes (see Fig. 2, not shown), (a) connecting analytical column 8 only to flame ionization detector 14; (b) as in (a) but also connecting bypass outlet 10' of separation column 7 to thermal conductivity detector 19; (c) connecting column 8 to detector 19 and column 7 to detector 14; and (d) connecting column 8 only to both detectors 14 and 19.
