1,262,333. 3 - Phenyl - 5 - methyl hydantoins. J. R. GEIGY A.G. 27 March, 1969 [28 March, 1968], No. 15970/69. Heading C2C. Novel compounds of the formula where R is F, CF 3 or C 1-6 alkoxy, in racemic or optically active form, are obtained by cyclization of a racemic or optically active compound of the formula where "alkyl" means C 1-6 alkyl, preferably in the presence of a strong acid and in an inert solvent. Compounds of Formula II are obtained by reacting an R-substituted phenyl isocyanate with an alkyl ester of alanine. Pharmaceutical compositions having analgesic, anti-inflammatory and/or antipyretic activity comprise compounds of Formula I above together with a diluent or carrier in forms suitable for oral administration.
