Abstract

1,262,289. Retractive switches. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. 19 June, 1969 [5 July, 1968], No. 32189/68. Heading H1N. A push-button electric switch comprises a body 6 adapted to be sealingly secured into an aperture in a mounting panel and a plunger 1 having an operating button 2, plunger 1 being sealingly attached to body 6 to prevent the ingress of liquid into body 6 by a flexible diaphragm 3 clamped around its periphery to body 6 which is bifurcated at the end remote from button 2 to provide a slot 14 for receiving one or more standard microswitches 15 which are retained by locking means so that plunger 1 engages with the operating button 16 of the microswitch(es). As shown, body 6 is threaded at 13 for a clamping ring (not shown) to mount it on the panel with the provision of sealing washers. Diaphragm 3 is clamped and bonded to the rear surface of push-button 2, and the periphery of diaphragm 3 is clamped to annular surface 10 by clamping ring 11 which is a force fit into body opening 12, adhesive is also applied to the clamping surfaces. The locking means to retain the microswitch(es) 15 within slot 14 comprises pins 17 passing through holes 18 to engage the casing of microswitch(es) 15.
