Abstract

1,262,253. Time switches. MALLORY TIMERS Ltd. 20 March, 1970 [20 March, 1969], No. 13685/70. Heading H1N. A timer comprises at least one circuit selector 30 carrying a contact wiper (42 not shown) driven over contacts on a printed circuit board 41 which comprises a plurality of preferably concentric circular contact tracks overlaid by an apertured plastics film (Fig. 7, not shown) determining the operating sequence. The circuit selector 30 has a slot 38 engaged by a transverse key 32 secured to a shaft 34 which is journalled in a housing 12 and a cover 14. The selector 30 has a toothed periphery 28 which co-operates with a pinion 26 journalled in housing 12 and cover 14. The pinion 26 co-operates with an idler gear 24 driven by the pinion 22 of a synchronous motor 20 mounted on a base 16 supported cantilever fashion between the cover 14 and housing 12 by bolts 13. A plug-in terminal 43 of printed circuit board 41 projects from the timer. The timer may be manually rapidly advanced. To prevent damage to motor 20 when the operator advances shaft 34, the idler gear 24 is arranged to be lifted away from pinion 26 against the action of a spring (Fig. 1, not shown). A plurality of housings 12 with printed circuit boards engaged by separate circuit selectors mounted on a common shaft may be provided (Figs. 4-6, not shown). Two synchronous motors rotating at the same speed but driving through different gear trains may be selectively connected to drive the timer by a clutch. Adjacent circuit selectors have cooperating butterfly bosses, recesses and projections which ensure that they can only be coupled together in one orientation.
