Abstract

1,262,105. Pneumatic tyres. DUNLOP HOLDINGS Ltd. 20 Feb., 1969 [24 Feb., 1968], No. 9143/69. Heading B7C. A radial ply tyre 6 has a breaker assembly 3 made up of a radially outer layer 7 and a folded inner layer 8 and two circumferentially extending reinforcement inserts 4 one on each side of the mid-circumferential plane X-X adjacent the axially outermost part of the assembly, each insert 4 comprising two folded layers 9, 10 of cords disposed in side-by-side and substantially parallel relationship, and being enveloped by the folded portion of the breaker layer 8. The axially inner edges of the layers 9 and 10 are axially offset in a stepped arrangement. The region of the tyre lying between the assembly 3, the carcass 1 and the two inserts is occupied by a rubber strip 5. In a modification, (Fig. 2, not shown), each insert comprises only one folded layer.
