Abstract

1,262,071. Safety harness. TELEFLEX Ltd. 7 Feb., 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 8486/68. Heading A3V. A safety harness reel, particularly for use in vehicles is provided with a reel-check device adjustable by the wearer to prevent rotation of the reel spindle 3 in the wind-in direction beyond the position in which the strap wound therein has an extended length equal to that which it had when adjusted by the wearer but which permits reel spindle rotation in the payout direction against the action of the strap retraction spring in the reel casing. The reel spindle 3 is provided with a screw threaded extension 2 keyed thereto by a tongue 9 recessed in a slot 9a in the spindle end 12 on which a nut 1 is held against rotation by a keying rod 11, so that the nut moves axially along the screw threaded extension 2 as the spindle 3 rotates. The wearer may adjust a stop plunger 4, frictionally engaged in a grommet 6 to contact the nut and thereby limit the winding-in rotation of the spindle 3. The plunger may be operated by means of a long push button or alternatively through a flexible cable transmission by remote control on e.g. the vehicle dashboard.
