[Also in Divisions G1 and H3] The humidity of a material is determined by its damping (i.e. loading effect) on the inductance of an oscillator. Application.-In a laundry rotary drier having a plastics drum (or a plastics ring inserted between the parts of a metal drum). The coil is mounted outside the drum and has a flat format, e.g. printed circuit, Fig. 4, (not shown). It may be connected to an oscillator/control circuit, Fig. 2 (not shown), to switch off the machine at e.g. a residual humidity of 5%. The drum may have a rib (3), Fig. 1 (not shown), to provide a reference point free of washing.
