The method of securing a lead sleeve 16 to the lid 11 of an electric storage battery according to the parent Specification is modified by providing an annular sealing rib 14a in the bore of the lid, or on the outer surface of the sleeve, or providing a resilient sealing ring between the sleeve and bore. The lid or sleeve may be formed with a second sealing rib parallel to the first.
