Abstract

1,260,941. Springs; machinery supports. STAL LAVAL TURBIN A.B. 25 April, 1969 [7 May, 1968], No. 21252/69. Headings F2S and F2X. [Also in Division F1] A plant having a casing 1 enveloping and supporting a low pressure steam turbine 3 and condenser 2 and, at opposite ends, supporting an overhung high pressure steam turbine 4 and/or generator 5 has support means to compensate for variation in the height of the casing 1 so as to maintain the centre line 12 straight under all conditions. The support means comprises, under the turbine 4 and/or generator 5, an oilfilled bellows 9 which is fixed at its upper end to the plant foundation by a member 10 and at its lower end to the turbine 4 or generator 5 by a member 11. The interior of the bellows 9 is connected by a pipe 8 to a further oil-filled bellows 7 which supports the free end of the turbine or generator via a member 6. Thus, should the height of the casing 1 increase, e.g. owing to temperature change, member 11 rises to compress bellows 9 so that oil is forced through pipe 8 causing bellows 7 to expand and raise the free end of the turbine or generator. One of the bellows 7, 9 may be larger than the other to compensate for changes in the length of members connected to the bellows. There may be several bellows 7 and associated members 6. Additional support is provided by a spring-loaded member 13. In a modification, member 6 is omitted and bellows 7 is placed under member 13.
