Abstract

1,260,907. Indole derivatives. SANDOZ Ltd. 23 May, 1969 [10 Dec., 1968; 7 June, 1968; 4 Sept., 1968], No. 26581/69. Addition to 1,238,968. Heading C2C. Compounds of the formula (R=H, CH 3 ) and their salts are prepared by (a) reacting 4-hydroxy-2-methylindole with epichlorohydrin or epibromohydrin in an alkaline medium, reacting the product with isopropylamine or tert.-butylamine or their N-benzyl derivatives and removing any benzyl group present, (b) reacting benzylisopropylamine or benzyl tert.-butylamine with epichlorohydrin or epibromohydrin, reacting the product with 4- hydroxy-2-methylindole in an alkaline medium and removing any benzyl group present or (c) reducing 4-(2-hydroxy-3-isopropylidenaminopropoxy)-2-methylindole, optionally followed in each case by salt formation. The above compounds are #-adrenergic blocking agents and may be administered in the form of pharmaceutical preparations containing them in association with a carrier.
