Abstract
1,260,600. Compacting and binding wire coils. COCKERILL - OUGREE - PROVIDENCE ET ESPERANCE - LONGDOZ. 27 July, 1970 [28 July, 1969], No. 36245/70. Heading B8C. A press for compacting coils of metal wire and for binding them with metal strips comprises a V-shaped coil support 2 mounted on a retractable platform 1 between a fixed shield and a mobile shield connected to an hydraulic compression jack 5 and carrying a jack 12 for inserting a device for guiding the binding strip. The chamber 5b of the jack 5 communicates with a medium pressure oleo-pneumatic pressure accumulator 6 which displaces the mobile shield towards the fixed shield, with a medium pressure pump 7 which feeds oil to the chamber 5b from a reservoir 14 when the pressure in the accumulator 6 falls below a given value and with a high-pressure pump 9 which feeds oil to the chamber 5b from the reservoir 14 after the pressure in the chamber 5b has risen to a certain value under the action of the pump 7. The high pressure pump 9 feeds oil until the required compacting pressure is reached and maintains this pressure with a substantially zero rate of flow during binding. The highpressure pump 9 also communicates with the other chamber 5d of the jack 5 to feed oil thereto after binding to cause the mobile shield to move away from the fixed shield and force the oil in the first chamber 5b into a low pressure oleo-pneumatic accumulator 11 which communicates with the jack 12 actuating the strip guide device, a jack 42 for opening the support 2 and with a jack 36 for pivoting a platform 4 for receiving the bound coils. The pumps 7, 9 are driven by a single electric motor 8. The interconnection of the pumps, accumulators and jacks is controlled by pressurestats and switches acting on electrovalves and is fully described. The duct 13 may be obturated by an electrovalve placed therein between the chamber 5d and a valve 9b and controlled from a switch 47 which is movable parallel to the displacement of the piston 5a and actuated by the piston-rod 5c or the mobile shield when the coils have been compressed to a given length.
