1,260,594. Dicarboxylic acid esters. OSTERREICHISCHE STICKSTOFFWERKE A.G. 12 June, 1970 [11 July, 1969], No. 28709/70. Heading C2C. Dicarboxylic acid esters of wherein X is oxygen or sulphur atom and R is an alkyl or alkenyl group (8-20 C) are prepared by reacting a dinitrile with the appropriate alcohol (8-20 C) with at least an equivalent amount of hydrogen chloride in an inert anhydrous solvent at below 50‹ C. and after the reaction decomposing the product with boiling water or steam. Examples describe the preparation of distearylthiodipropionate, dimyristylthiodipropionate, dilaurylthiodipropionate, distearyloxydipropionate, bis-(2-ethylhexyl)oxydipropionate and dieicosonylthiodipropionate.
