Abstract

1,260,477. Release-coating compositions. BEAVER GROUP Ltd. 24 Oct., 1969 [27 Nov., 1968], No. 56249/68. Heading C3P. [Also in Divisions C4-C5] Aqueous compositions for forming release coatings on sheet materials consist of water and (i) at least one natural or synthetic wax, or polyethylene, (ii) at least one of polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl acetate, and a vinyl acetate/acrylic copolymer, (iii) at least one dispersion stabilizer, (iv) at least one non-ionic or anionic surfactant, (v) one or more incidental ingredients, as defined, (i) and (ii) being dispersed in the aqueous phase. "Incidental ingredients" have no significant effect on the release properties provided by (i)-(iv) and are typified by perfumes, reodorants and preservatives. Preferred proportions are (i) 10-30% by wt., (ii) 0À5-2%, (iii) 0À4-2%, (iv) 0À1- 1À5%; water and incidental ingredients: balance to 100%. The dispersion stabilizer (iii) may be a water-soluble gum, ammonium caseinate, or a cellulose derivative. A single compound may act both as (iii) and (iv). A fatty acid, e.g. from linseed, soya or tall oil, and a water-soluble base, e.g. ammonia or aminomethyl propanol may be included. The composition of the example is: water 76% by wt. sodium lauryl sulphate 1% amino-methylpropanol 1À4% Hyoryl A 1000 1% lactic casein 0À4% gum arabic 2À1% ammonia (0À91) 0À3% paraffin wax 12À3% reodorant 3À6% 50% aqueous polymethyl methacrylate dispersion 0À86% phenyl mercuric acetate (preservative) 0À04% The compositions may be used to coat walls prior to pasting wallpaper.
