Abstract

1,260,071. Strapping conductors. TY-LOK ASSEMBLY SYSTEMS Inc. 26 May, 1970 [9 June, 1969; 27 Jan., 1970], No. 25241/70. Heading H2C. In a pneumatically controlled operation to automatically strap a bundle of conductors together jaws 24, 26 close round the bundle, a smooth plastics strap S is fed by slide 44 through cylinder 154, through one slot 212 in a plastics fastener 20 positioned in front of the forward end of the cylinder, is guided round the bundle by guides 28, and passed back through the other slot 214 of the fastener. The free end of the strap Se is twisted into the groove 220 to hold it, the slack is taken up by reversing the strap feed, the strap is cut and the second end is twisted into the groove 220. The sequence is -initiated by depressing the trigger 228 of valve 226, thus allowing compressed air to enter the system. The fasteners 20 are pushed by a spring from a magazine 30 through a tube 31 to their operative position, and the strap is twisted by a twisting mechanism (Fig. 17) which includes a twister 32 journalled into an off-axis hole 146 in member 148 and which twists the free end of the strap, and a twister cutter 34 which simultaneously twists and cuts the strap after the slack has been taken up.
