1,259,895. Monoazo dyes. SANDOZ Ltd. 7 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 6795/69. Addition to 1,203,989. Heading C4P. The invention comprises monoazo dyes of formula wherein R 1 is H or a hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted other than by COOH or SO 3 H groups or an acyl radical, R 2 is H or an acyl radical or a -CX.NH.R 1 radical, K is an aromatic or heterocyclic or radical, D is a hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted other than by COOH or SO 3 H groups and/or may contain hetero atoms, E is an aromatic radical, Y is -CO- or -SO 2 -, X is an 0 or 5 atom or a group =NR 1 and nuclei A and B may be further substituted other than by COOH or SO 3 H groups. The dyes are prepared by (a) coupling an appropriate diazotized amine with a component KH or (b) forming the group -NH-Y- between A and B by condensing an azo dye acid halide with an amine. The dyes are used to colour synthetic resins or colouring compositions in yellow to red shades.
