Abstract

April 20, 1918, [Convention date] Time-distance recorders; accelerometers; recording rest or motion.-Recording-apparatus for observing the movements of rail and road vehicles and the shock produced by a force suddenly applied to the vehicle in passing over a rail-joint &c. having a paper strip and a pen-point cooperating therewith and operatively connected to a yielding part of the indicator which is mounted on the vehicle, is provided with a pen-point to produce a time scale on the paper strip which is movable with a variable speed as it is wound up on a motor-driven spool. A heavy body 4, guided by rollers 5 in a standard 2 mounted in the casing 1, is supported by a weak coil spring 6 and carries a pen-point 3 which is supported by a spring 11 and is adapted to mark a paper strip 10 passing over a drum 9 and spools 12, 13. The spool 13 is driven by an electric motor 14, the speed of which is constant, and an electromagnet 15 is adapted to receive impulses at regular intervals whereby the armature 16 is attracted against the action of a spring 17 and causes a pen-point 18 to mark the time.scale on the paper strip 10. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) the paper strip 10 may be driven at a constant speed by means of a clockwork and the device 15-18 may be dispensed with. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
