Abstract

[Also in Division H2] An A.C. powered burner control circuit comprises a D.C. operated relay M, bridged by a rectifier D1, contacts F2 of a photo-electricallyoperated relay F, bridged by a resistance R1, and a heating coil V for a thermally-operated time-delay switch V1, arranged in series, the relay M having contacts M1 operating a motor 5 supplying fuel-oil to a burner, and the bridging resistance R1 being so rated that, when contacts F2 are open, the current flow is sufficient to maintain the state of relay M, but insufficient to actuate relay M or switch V1. A thermostat KT supplies power to the circuitactuating relay F, contacts F2 then actuating relay M and starting motor 5, and contacts F1 supplying current to an ignition transformer 8 supplying a spark igniter. If ignition occurs, a photo-resistor 9 makes a transistor Tr conduct, tripping relay F and thus disconnecting ignition transformer 8, and reducing the current through relay M and coil V, without shutting off motor 5. If ignition fails to occur, coil V heats sufficiently to switch contacts V1, lighting an indicator lamp 6 and cutting off the power to the device until, after cooling, switch V1 returns to the illustrated position, initiating a further ignition cycle. If the flame should go out, relay F trips, starting a further ignition cycle.
