Abstract

1,258,574. Comminuting apparatus. O. KAY. 20 Oct., 1969 [20 July, 1968], No. 34744/68. Heading B2A. A paper reducing machine comprises two contra-rotatable frusto-conical, conical or substantially conical rotors 3 arranged horizontally in a casing 1 with their axes parallel. The casing has an inlet 20 and an outlet 28 at opposite ends of the rotors. As described, each rotor is of hexagonal cross-section tapered along its length, provided with projections 14 and belt driven via an individual electric motor 8. The projections comprise square plates 14a secured to angle sections 13, which are secured to an outer metal cover 12 of a respective rotor. Two inlets 20 are provided at opposite sides of the rotors. Baffles 21 prevent material being thrown back through the inlets and an elongate triangular formation 22 cooperates with the rotors. Material to be reduced is carried in spinal paths around the rotors and ultimately thrown out downwardly through the outlet 28, Fig. 3, to, e.g. a baling machine.
