A folded network as claimed in claim 1 of parent Specification, which is such that a connection is set up over as few stages of the network as the spacing of the inlets to be connected allows, is adapted for four-wire working and avoids the reversal of pairs by switching in junctors, in order that each send pair should be connected to an outgoing receive pair and each receive pair to an outgoing send pair, and achieves this by providing within each group of circuits terminated on the network some circuits with their send pairs and receive pairs terminated reversely with respect to the others in the group. As shown, a connection between a line Lxal of subgroup XA of group X, if directed to a group Y, must be terminated on a line of subgroup YB such as Lyb1; the order of connection of the pairs in the B subgroups being reversed as compared with the pairs in the A subgroups. Connections between lines of like subgroups, such as lines Lxb1 and Lyb1, can be effected by setting up two connections in tandem over network K with the inclusion of a reversing junction such as R. The network K employs multiswitches, by which is meant relay crosspoint, crossbar, or crossed-coil switches.
